We start Monday. Luke is over the moon excited to ride the bus. Of course I learned tonight that he thought I was going too---get this---driving the school bus---OH MY! Anyhow, it gave me a chance to speak with both my big boys about bus behavior, and how big brothers need to look out for little brothers, even though I somehow think Luke will be a big support for Aleks. Aleks was a little sad that he will be coming home later than Luke (1/2 day K here)…
Anyhow, we’ve attended both K orientation and an Ice Cream Social for both boys. Even though Aleks attended PreK here (not K), I am a bit worried about how he will manage his expectations. He knows 4 kids in the first grade, but none in his classroom. I think he will be expecting to know his friends on day one, and he will walk into class and not know anyone…day 2 may be tough. Luke, on the other hand, knows he knows no one. He told me in the car this week, “mom, when I get to my class, I am going to walk up to someone and say, do you want to be my friend?, and we will be friends”…Nice….
