Today was a big day for the big boys. When I got home from work they wanted to play outside---of course. Then Luke wanted to go for a bike ride--without training wheels. Ummm, I have removed and reinstalled the training wheels more times than I care to remember, so my expectations were not high. But Luke is almost 5 and very stubborn--er determined. So off the wheels came, and away he went. I did suspect he was almost ready, but the bike can be a tough one. It has been called stupid and thrown down in frustration each time the wheels had been removed before. He did really really well. He will also need new shoes by Tuesday, as he refuses to use the pedal breaks.
This was all observed with angry scrutiny by big brother. Aleks had yet to master this particular skill and he was steaming. He demanded his training wheels come off as well....okaaaay. Then one feeble attempt and off went the helmet through the air and down went the bike in a defeated heap. Aleks stomped off angrier than before as his baby brother tried to show him how to do it...NOT GOOD! Well we discussed determination and cheering for our family and he gave it another try, and off he went. Seriously I never even had to run beside them...they just went. I suspect Aleks was ready last fall---physically, but emotionally---not until today.
by the time it was time to come in, they were both beaming from their accomplishments...
